Poppy (LoL) - Birthday Present for my Brother

Description

It's one of my brothers' birthday today. He happens to be a huge League of Legends player, so I drew him the only character from that game that I know: Poppy, Keeper of the Hammer.

I read up on Poppy's lore and backstory and, to be honest, even though I know nothing about LoL, I'm in love. A hero with the power to save a whole country, who's got such terrible self esteem that she's in constant denial over the fact that she's the hero and has convinced herself it must be something else, despite constantly committing heroic feats and helping people wherever she goes without getting or needing any recognition whatsoever. All she wants is to feel like there's something she can do in the world. That just screams "compelling character" to me.

Despite informing myself on the character, I kinda messed up with an important aspect of her design... That hammer of hers is supposed to be twice as large as I've drawn it. I noticed that mistake way too late. Argh...

Anyway, this was a really fun piece to work on, despite my unfamiliarity with the franchise.

I really like the color choice of her blue skin and purple eyes. It brings out her dark armor and it looks like it have more strength. Her expression and focus is great! The overall picture is balanced in color and the proportion of the hammer is fine. What could make this art stand out more is another light source or a brighter shine on the hammer (which is prob more diff. traditional, trust me I know) What I tried doing is going light at first and using the color of the sky as a source. other than that I really like it and the style.
